Be sure to check out the recommended cf cards for Nikon D700. When you use a piece of precision equipment like the Nikon D700 DSLR camera, your results are going to be very dependent on the “digital film” you use. For digital, many cameras, including the D700, a compact flash card, or CF card is the standard memory card format. Although the newer pro and prosumer Nikons have slots for 2 types of memory cards.
Because it’s the memory component of your camera that stores your images, you really want it to be as robust and stable as possible, so you never have to worry about having your images wiped out.
I was unclear about the differences in cf cards, until I did some research and found out that indeed there are some major, but technical differences between compact flash card brands.
And I have also been asking around to my crew of professional photographer buddies who without reservation tell me to STAY AWAY from “generic” compact flash cards. Not only are they slow they are not as reliable.
To avoid the agony of data recovery, use only these recommended cf cards for Nikon D700 and your Nikon digital cameras. There’s quite a choice, and a range of prices, so do your self a favor and stick with what’s been tested! I’ve moved up to an 64GB cf card, but am reluctant to go much higher just in case of a failure – I won’t lose ALL my data.
It seems to me better to not have all your eggs in one basket as they say!
I actually have a few Lexar CF cards too, including a couple of 32GB cards as well. Depending on what I’m shooting, and where, I feel better shooting on multiple cards – just in case one fails, there’s less chance that ALL my images won’t be lost.
Touch wood, I’ve never had a problem. And Lexar has a data recovery guarantee on their professional line of recommended cf cards.
